Laptop to External Monitor

Command Line for Dual Monitor Computer

Command Line can be really easy to use and can be only the option in certain circumstances. There are UPS es which execute a configurable .bat file when power goes off or returns back. In case you are using Dual Monitors with your Windows PC, you might need command line to control features of your dual monitor computer. As of thing writing there are 26 command line options which can be used on a Windows XP or Windows Vista Computer. However on a Windows 7 computer few extra command line option will be available. The command line options work in number something like Program.exe 1 or MyProgram.exe 2, etc. The numbers specify the command to be executed from a list of options to control a single, dual or multi monitor windows computer.

A typical installation of the dual monitor software MurGeeMon may be installed as “C:\Program Files\MurGeeMon\MurGeeMon.exe”. Now the program supports various command line options such as

1 This option will change the primary monitor on a dual monitor extended windows computer,

2  This will disable Primary Monitor and will make the Secondary Monitor as Primary Monitor,

3 This command line option will toggle the state of Secondary Monitor, in case the secondary monitor is disabled it will enable it or if it is enabled it will disable it,

and so on

In case you do wish to use the command line to disable all secondary monitors from a batch (.bat) file, you can add an entry to the batch file something like as given below

“C:\Program Files\MurGeeMon\MurGeeMon.exe” 4

Note : In case the software has been installed in any other folder, you would need to change the program path in the batch file.

Another easy way to get the correct command line option is to create a dual monitor shortcut on desktop using the option Create Dual Monitor Shortcut, Right click on the desktop shortcut, Select Properties , Navigate to the Shortcut tab and copy the Target path of the shortcut.

The Right Click Menu of Windows XP can be easily edited and new menu options can be added easily with the software presented here. In case you would like to disable the right click menu altogether, you would need knowledge of how to use the registry editor or some appropriate software which can disable right click menu of desktop. In order to disable you would need to navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer and add a new DWORD value with name NoViewContextMenu and set its value to 1 to disable the right click menu of xp. You can enable the right click menu by changing the value of the value NoViewContextMenu to 0. In case your right click menu of XP is slow and takes lots of time, it may be caused by some faulty software. There are many software tools out there which can tweak your right click menu without the need of uninstalling the culprit software.

In case you would like to add new menu options you would need a software to do the job as the job requires to create a dll and add some complex entries to the registry. The new menu options can be really useful whether you are using single or multiple monitor windows computer as with multiple monitors connected to your windows computer, you get more screen area and there is lots of space where you can move mouse cursor around. New menu options to the right click menu of XP would allow you to launch an application or open an existing document without requiring you to move mouse cursor to the primary monitor.

The Right Click Menu of Windows has improved with Windows Versions. The Right Click Menu of Desktop in Windows XP was fairly simple, whereas in Windows Vista a new Menu option was added named Personalize and this Desktop Menu trend has continued on Windows 7 as well. 

Let’s say you are browsing Internet using Internet Explorer on Secondary Monitor and you close the browser when it was positioned on secondary monitor. Internet Explorer remembers it’s last position and hence if you launch it again, it will be launched on the last monitor, which in this example is the secondary or second monitor connected to a dual monitor windows computer. Imagine how useful would it be if you could right click on desktop while your mouse cursor is on the second monitor and launch Internet Explorer or any other software without moving your mouse cursor back to the primary monitor.

The top two Menu options can be added to any Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 Desktop or Laptop Computer, whereas the extra options added after the refresh button can be added on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
